My Equipment and Process

Starting Small

Taking It One Step At A Time

Over the years, my astrophotography journey has seen significant progress as I’ve gradually built up my gear and honed my skills. I started small with just a basic DSLR camera and a wide-field lens, capturing starry skies and learning the fundamentals of exposure settings and composition.

As my understanding grew, I upgraded to a telephoto lens to capture more detail and zoom in on distant celestial objects. I added a star tracker to help combat the Earth’s rotation and keep stars sharp even during longer exposures.

Most recently, I made the leap to a dedicated astrophotography refractor telescope, which has been a huge step forward in terms of image quality and precision. With each upgrade, my shots have become clearer and more detailed, and I’m excited to continue refining my technique as I explore deeper into the night sky.

The Process

Understanding My Approach to Astrophotography

I am using Siril, GraXpert and Adobe Photoshop for post-processing most of my images.

Stack

Stack images using bias, dark and flat files; background extraction and photometric color calibration.

Stretch

Stretch star-less image using asign and/or histogram transformation.

Adjust
